Friday, my mom and I took a trip up to Palmer to go to the State Fair. We had planned to go Thursday, but there was a much higher chance of rain than Friday so we changed our plan. The weather on Friday was so nice and the sky was clear so we had a great view of the mountains.

I was the "I" in FAIR :)

When we first got into the fair, we checked out a garden right by the entrance. What is a visit to the Alaska State Fair if you don't see some giant plants?

After buying ride tickets, we hopped on the carousel. I rode a horse through the mountains!

Next, I rode the Ferris wheel so I could get a good view of the whole fair from up high. I'm not sure if we were just there super early, but the whole fair seemed empty and I was one of three people on the Ferris wheel. At least I didn't have to wait in line!

We got a few game tickets with our ticket package, so I played the fair game with the ducks. I won a three inch stuffed animal, the smallest prize you could win of course.

Obviously we had to see some animals while we were at the fair! We went to the petting zoo and saw these sweet animals. So many babies!!!

This cracks me up!

Next, we walked around to check out the fair a little bit. It was so pretty with the mountains so close in the background. Like I've said a million times, I'll never get over the mountains!!!

These ladies got some crazy hairdos from a "Fair Hair" booth.

How cute is this little bear?! It was so cool to watch this guy carve his sculptures with a chainsaw.

Only YOU can prevent forest fires.

I hate to say it but... we did some gambling at the fair. This is basically rat roulette and we bet one dollar (and lost it). The rat was cute though.

I'm a huge fan of fair food like funnel cakes and cotton candy, but I saw a sign for cookies and milk and thought I'd broaden my fair food horizons. I'm glad I did because this was one of the best cookies I've ever had. The booth donates five cents from every cookie to a charity of the customers choice, so they give you a token and you put it in whichever slot you want. So neat!

I wouldn't say the Alaska State Fair was phenomenal or way different from other state fairs, but I just love going to fairs. Plus, how many people can say they've been to the Alaska State Fair? Not that it's necessarily on everyone's bucket list...

After the fair, we went to my dorm and set everything up. Stay tuned if you want to see how that turned out!
